Couples Counselling In Yorkshire & Online For When Your Relationship Feels Stuck, Shaken Or At Breaking Point
My couples counselling is for couples dealing with affairs, broken trust, repeated conflict or the slow loss of connection that leaves you wondering what happened to the two of you. As a specialist couples therapist and affair recovery specialist, I offer Affair Recovery Therapy, Couples Therapy and Imago Relationship Therapy in person in Yorkshire and online worldwide, with a clear structure designed to help you understand what's happening between you, what needs to change and what comes next.
The Problem Tells Us Where To Start
You don't need to arrive knowing which type of therapy or approach you need. Most couples come because something between them is no longer working — conflict keeps repeating, communication has broken down, trust has been damaged or the relationship feels increasingly distant. We start with the problem you're facing, then use the right therapeutic approach to help you understand the pattern and begin changing it.
Specialist Couples Therapy
Couples therapy is the main work I do.
You might come because you're stuck in the same argument, communication has broken down, you've become emotionally disconnected, or you're no longer sure how to find your way back to each other.
We start with what is happening between you now. We identify the pattern you keep getting pulled into, understand what sits underneath it, and practise different ways of responding so the relationship can begin to feel different outside the therapy room too.
Affair Recovery Therapy
An affair creates a particular kind of relationship crisis, and it needs more than general communication advice.
If you're dealing with infidelity, betrayal, secrecy or broken trust, the first job isn't to rush towards forgiveness. It's to create enough stability, honesty and emotional safety for both of you to understand what has happened and decide what comes next.
My affair recovery work sits within my specialist couples therapy practice, with a structured process for facing what happened without allowing it to consume every conversation.
Imago Relationship Therapy
Knowing why you argue doesn't necessarily stop you arguing.
Imago Relationship Therapy is the main therapeutic approach I use with couples. It gives difficult conversations more structure, helping you slow things down, listen differently and get underneath the defensive positions you've both learned to take.
Rather than simply talking about the relationship, you practise a different way of being in it.
Relational Life Therapy
I'm also training in Relational Life Therapy with Terry Real and am beginning to bring elements of this approach into my work with couples.
RLT is particularly direct about patterns, accountability and the ways both partners contribute to the dynamic between them. It complements the structured relational work I already do through Imago, while Imago remains my primary couples therapy approach.
Online Couples Therapy
Living further away shouldn't mean settling for a therapist who isn't the right fit.
I offer online couples therapy for couples across the UK and worldwide. You can do the same structured relationship work without needing to travel to Yorkshire.
You Don't Need More Of The Same
Some couples come to me after months or years of trying to sort things out themselves. You've had the conversations. You've promised to communicate better. You may have read books, listened to podcasts or tried counselling before. And yet, when something difficult happens, you find yourselves back in the same place.
That's because therapy for relationship issues has to do more than help you understand the problem. It needs to change what happens when one of you feels criticised, ignored, threatened, rejected or shut out.
If one of you pursues harder while the other retreats, or every attempt to resolve something turns into blame, silence or another row, that pattern eventually becomes stronger than your intentions. You can love each other and still have no idea how to get out of it.
That's the work. We make the pattern visible, slow it down and give you different moves to practise until the relationship stops running on autopilot.

Why Couples Choose To Work With Me
It's an open secret amongst therapists that many train primarily for individual work and then add couples to what they offer. My work is deliberately centred on relationships, with more than 16 years' clinical experience, UKCP accreditation and advanced Imago training behind it.
That matters when there are two people in the room, both hurt, defensive or unsure what happens next. Add an affair, years of resentment or the possibility of separation and you need more than someone politely refereeing the conversation.
I bring direct leadership, a structured process and a clear focus on what actually happens between you. The aim is not to keep talking about the problem indefinitely, but to help you change the way you communicate, repair after conflict, rebuild trust and create more emotional safety in the relationship.
My work has also been featured in The Guardian, BBC, Stylist, Metro and LA Weekly, but credentials and media appearances only tell you part of the story. The real question is whether the way I work makes sense to you and whether I'm the right fit for what you're facing.
What Working Together Looks Like
Start With The Problem
Tell me what's happening. You don't need a polished explanation or a diagnosis of your relationship. An affair, the same fight on repeat, months of silence or simply "we can't carry on like this" is enough to start the conversation.
Understand The Pattern
We look beneath the subject you're fighting about and identify what each of you does when the relationship feels unsafe. That pattern might involve pursuing, withdrawing, blaming, defending or shutting down.
Practise Different Responses
Insight has to become action. I give you structure and practical ways of speaking, listening and responding differently, so the work doesn't disappear the moment you leave the session.
Decide What Comes Next
Not every couple arrives knowing whether they want to stay together. The work can help you understand what repair would actually require and make clearer decisions about the future of your relationship.
In Person In Yorkshire, Online Worldwide
I work with couples in person in Yorkshire, with Otley as my base, as well as online with couples across the UK and internationally. Online sessions mean you can work with me because my approach fits what you need, rather than simply because a therapist happens to be closest to you.
If you're deciding between online and face-to-face work, you don't need to work that out before getting in touch. We can talk about your circumstances on the clarity call and decide what makes most sense.

Frequently Asked Questions
You Don't Have To Know The Answer Yet
Maybe you're here because an affair has changed everything. Maybe you've become experts at having the same argument. Maybe nothing dramatic has happened at all, but you've stopped feeling like lovers, partners or even much of a team.
You don't need to decide today whether your relationship can be repaired, which therapy you need or what the next year is supposed to look like. Start with what is happening now. From there, we can work out whether I'm the right person to help you do something different.
